1973

I had no ambition my only journey was to love him
This street hoodlum... who had poverty embedded in him
I met him in Brooklyn...
He had connections by the basement entrance
I was enchanted with the way his life slanted... on the chaotic side

It felt romantic when he looked in my eyes
Grabbed my thigh
Walked on by... without even saying Hi!
So mesmerized by the little attention given I didn't even yell QUIT IT!
Shit at that moment... my lonely heart was stolen...
No one had ever paid Ugly Black me any attention!
And I'll be 17 in 13 days... So like calgon he can take me away
30 minutes he later he came back my way and he-he asked me my name!
2 months later I became his main... life for me would never be the same
Drastically I changing I'm staying out late... my moms
I'm disobeying
He - He became the only thing in life I grew to appreciate

Make no mistakes He took me from empty plates to potatoes & steaks
No more belly aches everyday I ate...
I traded Poverty for luxury I went from 2 pair of panties to shopping sprees...
Nappy hair to professional weaves,
Smoking Bob Marley, sippin Limon Bacardi
Making love with longevity... To him I had given my virginity
Yo this was the life for me ...He was my king and I was his Queen

Sadly moms and I no longer speak
She believes his dirty deeds will bring me tragedy
But if she can't accept him... she can't accept me!
Why- WHY? can't she just be happy for me?
Can't she see I'm no longer living in poverty?
Certainly we live a little dangerously... but he loves me!

Why can't many see past the felonies & schemes
Recognize he makes me complete
Maybe one day love will hurt me...
But right now LOVE has me on a journey
And maybe to many he isn't worthy but...
He's the first to pay attention to me!
He's the first to say he likes me!
He's the 1st to tell me I'm pretty!
He's the 1st to say he loves me! Do you HEAR me?
He's the 1st to say ... He LOVES ME! The 1st to say he LOVES me!
Since Daddy left Mommy & Me in 1973
